Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
With the invention of TCP/IP and the internet, came the development of large interconnected systems used by thousands of users. In the late 1980's, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) was proposed as a way to monitor the health of these systems to ensure continuous availability. Today there are a host of tools available for managing networks and the systems that run on them using SNMP.One such tool for MacOS X, InterMapper from Dartware, uses SNMP to monitor routers, servers, and applications. Combined with AgentEYE, InterMapper now allows you to also monitor OpenBase databases within the context of your overall enterprise.
